Hollywood Casino Charlestown, West Virginia

The food seems to have gone downhill a little. The food was ok - but cold! My boyfriend and I picked this restaurant because the menu had delicious sounding dishes and we wanted something upscale and intimate for our anniversary. The atmosphere is congenial and convenient for betting. Betting stations at both ends of the dining area, made it easy to get your bets placed. It made dinner a really great group adventure. The food delicious and the service faultless. Salad items appeared fresh and the desserts were attractive and tasty. Buffet had a nice selection, not as hot as I'd like it, but very good. Love watching the races while eating. The food was excellent and we loved having the table to ourselves for the evening. I am hoping that the pretty weather and the Kentucky Derby caused the restaurant to be unexpectedly busier than normal and they will adjust quickly. I saw some cost saving measures meat balls, catfish bites for clams, no crab. The food on the buffet was mediocre at best and the line you had to stand in was so ridiculously long. The only downfall was that the website shows the buffet at That special pricing should have been on their website or mentioned when I called and spoke to them before booking through open table. Skyline terrace offers a most pleasant change of pace in that it overlooks the Charles Town thoroughbred race track. Went to watch the races at Charles Town for my husbands birthday. We really enjoy watching the horse races and betting on them from the comfort of our seats. We would return again! The wait staff were incredibly busy and did not have time to be attentive. I had made a reservation far in advance; I requested a table overlooking the track.{/INSERTKEYS}{/PARAGRAPH} Very attentive and bubbly and friendly. The only problem we had was getting too excited when our horse did run well and we wanted that to happen often. I would recommend this to anyone. It was just OK. It was a wonderful evening to spend with my husband, and his parents to eat dinner and to watch the horses and play at the casino. The betting counters for the horse races viewed while dining had long lines adding to the frustration of the occasion. Our waiter was on the ball, catering to us like we were all he had to worry about. Upon arrival, we were led to a window table but it was then discovered that no window tables were available so we were led to a table that was 4 tables removed from the windows with a so-so view. If it weren't for us having fun betting on the horse races while dining and our friendly diners seated across from us, we'd never give this place a second chance. The person we had for drink service at the table was exceptional. The prime rib was very good and done very well. However; the lines for betting we're totally unacceptable. Very disturbing!!!!!!!!! The service was very slow and by the time our food arrived my potatoes were barely warm. Neither my husband nor I are gamblers, but we went with friends and had a blast! We have been to Skyview several times and never had a negative experience. Went with some friends to celebrate our anniversary and enjoy the buffet and watch the ponies. Salad bar is great. Food was excellent; service was the same! He should be fired!!!! She certainly made our visit a pleasurable one. The restaurant is tiered and has a glass wall so you can watch the races. {PARAGRAPH}{INSERTKEYS}We chose the restaurant for the view of the race trace at Charles Town. Upon being seated we learned we came the night of a big horse race so the only dining option was buffet, something neither of us wanted and feel like the website should've informed us of. What fun! The staff is very pleasant and there is a variety of food on the buffet. Both sides of the terrace have 3 betting lines with 3 operators on each side and one machine that's self betting. My wife and I selected this restaurant, and requested window seating, because neither of us had seen a live horse race. The waitress and chef were exceptional service especially for myself having a black pepper allergy and the chef making me a special dish to eat because I couldn't eat a lot of the buffet food. Can place bids right in the restaurant. So the evening got off to a less than desirable start. Either fix your machines so lines are not so long or have less people there. The foods was good. We were very pleased with the service from our waitress. Not being a fan of buffets, we both ordered from the menu. She was very attentive to our needs and very polite, energetic and extremely professional. It really spoiled the evening experience. Service is very good; food is a bit buffet production but still pretty good. It wasn't a big deal for the two of us but it could have been for a whole family. I finally quit placing bets. I give the food two stars only because the crab cakes were at least decent. Seafood is tasty. This is a great place to come and enjoy the races in a nice dining atmosphere. The restaurant itself is beautiful and probably not too crowded on normal nights and the TVs to watch the horses at each table is great. Other vegetables and salads are good. Enjoy a tremendous buffet and then an evening of horse races. The choice of sides left much to be desired. The process of online reservation was easy and we were pleased with the table and view, table in front of us were extremly verbal and obiviuosly had been there numerous times. Food was fair, nothing spectacular, prime rib was fatty no flavor, pieces that were cut were thin,I preferrer my prime rib cut thicker. Did I mention it was very crowded The ambient temperature in the place was very warm, probably due to the amount of people but I feel that should been taken into account. We chose that. The waiter's attitude and service really sucked. This was a wonderful way to do so, The food buffet was offered the night we were there and was wonderful and very nicely priced was terrific and we had a wonderful time. Shrimp were jumbo size and so good. Lots of fun. Desserts are just okay but the bread pudding is outstanding. Watching the horses run and making small bets was fun and different. The entrees were not good prime rib was raw and heavily seasoned, fried shrimp was old and tough, pot roast was over seasoned. This was our second time at this restaurant we went on a Saturday night and I truly enjoyed it as much as the first. They were very nice, however. There is a buffet on the weekends. We hope to return in the future. We watched him tend to his other tables the same way. I have had better I was a disappointed with dinner. The best part is, your table is yours for the entire evening, so make sure to make a reservation! My wife ate less than half of her broiled seafood platter and it wasn't due to lack of appetite. Not a good value for the money we paid for each meal! One has a total view of the track and paddock. Every thing was nice, espically the food and the service. Didn't realize it was Kentucky Derby weekend, it was very crowded, my fault. There is also a small TV screen at each table to watch horse racing. The crab legs were cold and very difficult to pick, wound up wasting most of them. The buffet at the Charles Town racetrack is reasonably good - prime rib doesn't have much taste but looks good. The side items were just "ok", nothing to write home about. Overlooking the racetrack, we watched the races while we ate a leisurely dinner at our pace, not the restaurants.
